Children Lit Festival-‘Once Upon a Time…’
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss
IAELC conducted its second Lit-Festival, ‘Once Upon a Time…’, on November 14th, 2019, to promote the value and pleasure of reading in children. The event commenced with the DEAR Week and culminated on Childrens’ Day where children and parents participated together attending the Lit-festival.
Teachers and parents play a huge part in the development of reading skills in young children. Reading offers so much more than just quiet time in a cosy corner. It helps to develop spelling, listening, writing, literacy and social skills. Young children need to be able to experience books; they need to be able to understand and enjoy stories, books, rhymes and songs and listen and respond to them with curiosity and enjoyment.
The unique factor of this event was the book release written and illustrated by PP1 & PP2 children. The creativity of these children was reflected in the words, drawings and images on every page these books. Parents, children and the team at IAELC, all gathered to share the children’s excitement of their first ever book release. We also planned many other sessions like reading with puppets, reading without walls and a gallery walk showcasing the work of popular Indian and international authors of children’s books.
It was indeed a memorable day for everybody present as we all gathered to celebrate books and the world of reading with our young emergent readers.
