Pastoral Care
The Pastoral Policy is designed to help students attain academic excellence, sensitize them to the environment which includes the community & cope with various emotional experiences.
The Pastoral system in the primary school
The Grade Teachers of each Grade and Section are directly responsible for the well being of the students. The counselor plays a significant part in maintaining discipline, and overall psychological well being, by the process of counseling, giving guidance to the teachers for management of classroom discipline and understanding psychological needs of the students. The Head of Primary School oversees the whole program.
The Pastoral system in the senior school
Indus International School has four Houses, Orion, Hercules, Pegasus and Phoenix. Students and teachers are divided equally between these. Each House is headed by a Housemaster who is responsible for the implementation of the Pastoral system for the respective House. Every teacher is also a Tutor in a house, and apart from classroom instruction, is also responsible for a group of 10 students.
The Tutor will be the first point of contact for parents and teachers for any concerns related to the tutee. The tutor interacts with the tutees every morning, takes attendance, checks their grooming, meets them for lunch and meets them for an hour every week, which is part of the weekly routine. This time is used to enquire about their well being, academic performance, extra-curricular activities and any other emotional concern.
Resident tutors will have additional responsibility with regard to the boarders, in terms of study hour supervision, academic support, evening sports, meal supervision and weekend activities.
The Vice Principal is responsible for the overall implementation of the Pastoral System.
